    Diving

A number of fully stocked dive shops with certified instructors and dive masters are available in Costa Rica. Most diving is around rock formations, in 20 to 100 foot depths. Visibility ranges between 20 and 80 feet and water temperatures a steady 75 to 85 degrees, with 80 to 90 degree air temperatures year-round. In addition to coastal diving, there are charters to Cocos Island, our national park 300 miles off the Puntarenas.

About mid-way down Costa Rica’s Pacific coast at Bahia Herradura is an area known as El Jardin (The Garden), that is famed for its formations of soft coral and sea fans. This is easily accessed by dive operators from Puntarenas or Quepos. Further south, Cano Island, just off the Osa Peninsula, is another virgin diving area with a reef that hosts a large variety of tropical fish as well as immense grouper, snapper and such game species as wahoo, roosterfish, jacks and tuna. That area is serviced by operators out of the Drake Bay region.
